Uncharted 5 release unlikely, says Naughty Dog

An Uncharted 5 PS4 release looks unlikely to be happening, certainly not with Naughty Dog in charge, but could Sony employ another studio for the next big adventure?

Naughty Dog has reiterated that it is unlikely to develop any new Uncharted games following the launch of the upcoming Uncharted The Lost Legacy.
While adopting a ‘never say never’ policy for future installments in the successful action-adventure franchise, the California-based studio noted that it’s got its hands full with the likes of The Last of Us: Part 2 among other things, so Uncharted 5 may not happen at all.
Speaking with Game Informer. Naughty Dog co-founder, Evan Wells, commented, “I would say that Naughty Dog doing an Uncharted after this is unlikely. I would never say never, but we’ve got The Last of Us Part 2 on our plates and there’s so much other stuff that [we want to explore].
It’d be hard. If we magically had that two-team, three-team studio, sure – it’d be great to keep doing it. We really love the franchise, but the studio has limited resources and lots of other ideas. I’d say the likelihood is low.
Naughty Dog’s latest comments on the future of Uncharted and Uncharted 5 pretty much echo what we’ve heard before, although previously it was stated in more unequivocal terms that the Santa Monica outfit was done with the series. At the time, it did say that it could see an Uncharted 5 being possibly made by another studio, and it’s unlikely that Sony would want to bid farewell to one of its biggest money-makers. It’s also entirely possible that Sony may want to wait to release a new Uncharted game for the next generation of its consoles, PS5.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is a standalone expansion for the critically acclaimed Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and reunites players with fan-favorite Chloe Fraser as she teams up with Nadine Ross to hunt down a mythical Indian artifact. The Lost Legacy will have its own unique flavor, with Chloe proving a markedly different character than Nate, so expect something a little different this time around.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is due out exclusively for PS4 in 2017.
Would you be happy to see an Uncharted 5 release from another studio?
